Adidas is back with a new Ultraboost colorway. They’ve teamed up again with Beyoncé’s Ivy Park line to create an electric green version of the popular running shoe. The shoe is designed to inspire women to look and feel active, stylish, and confident. It features a lace closure for a personalized fit, and a BOOST midsole for extra cushioning. The heel clip ensures a stable stride, while the solar green finish makes the wearer standout. There is no denying that the shoe certainly embodies both style and performance but how will it do via Retail? A good way to determine that is seeing how previous colorways of the same silhouette are doing now. I took to eBay and StockX to collect data and came up with the following findings.
How Is The Ivy Park Adidas Ultraboost Doing On eBay?
The figures shown above are based on sales of 37 pairs of the Ivy Park Adidas Ultra boost in the following colorways: black green, olive green, bright orange, grey, blue, and yellow. Only 37 pairs were sold in a 30-day period, out of a total of 6 colorways. The sell through rate is 17.13 percent, which is extremely low. A good sell through rate is one that is greater than or equal to 40%. The highest recorded sale was $250 for the olive green colorway. This is the only desirable iteration, which explains why the average resale price is $162.53. If that colorway was removed from the chart above, the average sale price would fall to between $100 and $150. Before I draw any conclusion, let’s see how the Ivy Park UB is performing via StockX.
How Is The Shoe Performing On StockX?
I chose the yellow colorway because it is the closest to the upcoming electric green iteration. As you can see from the chart above, in the past four days, the average sale price of the shoe was between $121 and $137. Here is the five number summary for the data:
Minimum: 100
Quartile Q1: 128
Median: 150
Quartile Q3: 172.5
Maximum: 250
25% of the shoe sold for prices between $100 and $128 while 50% sold for prices between $128 and $172.5. We can infer from this that most pairs are going to sell for $172.5 or a little less. Since this colorway is fairly similar to the Electric Green Ivy Park UB, it is safe to say that the resale price of the latter will probably fall within the $130-$175 interval. The Ivy Park UB has an MSRP of $200 before tax. With our findings we can conclude that the sell through rate via retail will probably fall below 40%. So I don’t expect the shoe to sell out unless it is extremely limited ( which I doubt).
As good as the shoe is in terms of performance, I believe the Ultra boost boat has sailed and that the $200 price tag is excessive. I’ve seen the UB for as little as $109 at the Adidas outlet. We know that the resale market influences the retail market to some extent, so revising the price may be an excellent strategy for increasing sales. The colorway is another reason I believe the upcoming colorway will fail. Bright and flamboyant colorways, according to our observations, can only be pulled off by a small number of people. The majority of customers prefer conservative colorways, and the brand should perhaps stick to that. I don’t work for Adidas, and it’s possible that they see something I don’t, but numbers don’t lie.
