A week ago I was able to do one of the best comparisons between a fake and an authentic pair since I had both sneakers on hand. Today I’m not so fortunate but that doesn’t stop me from using my old rigorous method of analyzing pictures meticulously. I was able to pick up a legitimate pair of the Air Jordan 5 Bel Air, and pinned against its fake counterpart using pictures I fetched online. It isn’t the easiest method but it will do. Here are quick ways to spot the fake Air Jordan 5 Alternate Bel Air .
The Speckles are barely legible on the fake pair ( see yellow circles). The yellow arrows are showing you how the indent on the outsole is more 3D on the authentic pair ( you can clearly see how different they are).
You can clearly recognize the poor paint job on the fake pair ( look at edge of shark teeth on the replica pair). Also the foggy bottom is a lot darker on the fake pair ( see yellow arrow pointing up).
The spacing between the “23” and the edge of the midsole is bigger on the fake pair. Additionally the “23” is placed further to the right on the authentic pair ( see red vertical line). The “2” and the “3” are more spaced out on the authentic pair. Pay careful attention to the spacing.
The space between the screen and the edge of the midsole is wider on the authentic pair ( the plastic screen is almost adjacent to the edge of the midsole, this is a recurring mistake on fake jordan 5’s in general).
One of the major areas on the Jordan 5’s that the replica industry struggles with is the netting. The plastic used on the fake pair is very hard and breakable, and its color is really clear.
The jumpman logo of the fake pair has a shorter front leg ( you can recognize that by looking at the two diagonal lines that wee drawn). The arrow also shows you how very short the foot of the jumpman is.
The jumpman logo’s fingers are barely recognizable on the fake pair. The double lines contouring the jumpman are subtle on the authentic pair but very vivid on the fake one. The stitching on the jumpman is very perceptible on the real pair but not noticeable on the fake pair. The lining around the tongue is also noticeable on the real pair ( see red arrows).
The fake pair above has the wrong set of laces to go with it, they are supposed to be green.
The box label of the replica pair is completely wrong , this is probably from the first batch of fakes.
This replica pair has the right label but the prints are barely legible and the color code is also wrong.
The authentic pair’s label features the MSRP tag and the retail price is $190 while the fake pair doesn’t feature that tag and has a retail price of $200.
The replica pair above has the wrong insoles ( white with multi colored jumpmen logos).
The insoles appear similar but upon closer inspection, you’ll clearly see that the authentic pair’s insoles features subtle horizontal lines that are nowhere to be seen on the fake pair’s insole.
There you have it folks, hopefully you’ll be able to spot the fake pairs.
