Welcome to Thursday’s edition of legit check, today we’ll learn how to quickly identify the fake Air Jordan 1 high shattered backboard. This shoe has been reintroduced this year after its initial introduction in 2015 and fakes have already flooded the market and you’ll do well to check my comparison below courtesy of Jacob Marcellus. Areas we’ll focus on will include the color, the back, the toe, the insoles, midsole, box and more.
How To Tell If Your Air Jordan 1 High OG Shattered Backboard Is Fake?
Back Comparison

Overall scaling: The fake pair’s heel heel panel is fractionally taller, which is why the white heel overlay sits higher relative to the black stripe and midsole (green-circled area).
Overlay position: On the replica pair, the white band rides up a couple of millimeters; on the real, it sits lower and more centered across the heel.
Collar cut (yellow line): Despite the heel being over scaled, the padded collar on the fake is cut a hair lower than the authentic pair, giving the rim a slightly shorter profile.
Midsole Comparison

Midsole foxing texture (red circles)
Fake: The foxing shows a widely spaced herringbone—the diagonal “dashes” are longer and flatter, with softer embossing.
Real: The texture is finer and tighter, with short, sharply cut diagonal ribs that are uniform row to row.
Heel outsole lugs (yellow boxes)
Fake: The rear tread blocks are round-edged and overbuilt, with a diamond/“X” motif on the faces and shallower gaps between lugs.
Real: The blocks are squarer with crisp walls, a fine pebbled face, and deeper, clean channels between each lug.
These differences in texture density (midsole) and lug geometry (outsole) are easy to spot in hand and consistently separate authentic pairs from replicas.
Insole Comparison

On the insoles, the authentic pair uses a high-contrast, high-resolution shattered-glass print—crisp white facets, sharp edges, and dense micro-fragments—while the replica’s shards appear gray, soft, and sparsely placed( see yellow circles). Along the heel , the orange rim on the real insole is shorter and shows a smooth orange-to-yellow gradient with clean, thin net lines; the fake air Jordan 1 High Shattered Backboard rim is wider and shows a flatter red-orange ( see yellow arrows).
Outsole Comparison

Real: The outsole is a deeper, red-leaning orange—think burnt orange. It looks richer and a bit more muted.
Fake: The outsole is a brighter, yellow-leaning orange—more pumpkin/carrot. It looks flatter and pops a little too much.
Swoosh Logo Comparison

The swoosh logo is over scaled ( slightly bigger) on the fake pair and appears bubbly/ puffed up while the real pair has a standard swoosh logo and looks 2D, see red arrows.
Extra Laces comparison

The genuine lace pack box with a bright safety-orange lace and a clean, deep Jumpman/“SHOELACES” stamp on a lighter sleeve, whereas the fake uses a duller rust-orange lace and a shallow, blurry emboss on a darker, rough-cut sleeve, it is quite obvious.
Box Comparison

The orange color on the NIKE text is of a lighter shade on the real box but darker on the fakes, see green arrows.

The yellow arrows confirm that the Nike text comes in a lighter shade of orange on the authentic pair. And the green and yellow lines show you how much longer the legitimate box is in comparison to the fake one.
Black Light Test

The fake air Jordan 1 High shattered backboard outsole glows under the black light while the real pair’s outsole does not, see yellow arrows. Also the real pair’s toe overlay glows and turns almost pink under the black light but does not on the fakes, see green arrows.

Again you can see here how the quarter panel’s overlay glows on the real pair but does not on the fakes, see yellow arrows.
There you have it folks, hopefully you’ll be able to spot the Fake Air Jordan 1 High shattered backboard with these tips. I’ll update the post as soon I come across more detailed tips to look for, stay tuned and check the post regularly.
I’ll also invite you to check my authentication post on the Air Jordan 5 Grapes From 2025 and Jordan 14 Ferrari Red as both pairs were released not long ago and fakes of both have flooded the market.
