Welcome to Friday’s edition of legit check, today we’ll learn how to identify the fake Air Jordan 4 Undefeated. This is a shoe that many in the sneaker community couldn’t wait to get their hands on, it was definitely long overdue. However replica pairs have been circulating for almost half a year now and you’ll do well to check this side by side comparison below courtesy of the Authentication GURU so that you get dealt a fake one. Areas we’ll focus on will include the toe, the back, the air unit, the tongue and the box.
How To Tell If Your Air Jordan 4 Undefeated Is Fake?
Side & Toe Comparison
From the side, the replica runs under scaled: its toe is lower and pointier, while the authentic pair shows a fuller vamp and truer AJ4 profile( see red arrows). Also note cage placement—on the real shoe the mesh frame sits almost flush with the panel edges; the fake leaves a visible space between the cage and the overlay( see yellow circles).

Toe color tone (red circles): The fake vamp is a darker, muddier olive, while the authentic vamp is a lighter, cleaner olive. The difference holds within the same lighting of the photo, so it’s not just shadowing.
Eyestay spacing (red lines): The gap between the two eyestay columns is tighter on the real pair (narrower lace channel). On the fake air Jordan 4 Undefeated, the eyestays sit farther apart, leaving a wider tongue channel and slightly changing the forefoot proportions.
Back Comparison

At the heel, replicas run under scaled: the NIKE AIR logo is enlarged and pushed toward the edges, while the authentic tab leaves consistent side margins( see the red dashes). Also note the panel cut—the fake’s suede climbs higher, whereas the real pair’s suede is cut lower, giving the heel tab more room to breathe.
Air Unit Comparison

Inside the heel air unit, the authentic pair shows three posts that are evenly centered. On the fake Undefeated 4’s, one post sits too far out toward the lens( see green arrow), creating uneven spacing. The fake also uses a taller, thicker-rimmed window, so the orange chamber looks larger and the bottom edge appears cloudy compared to the crisp, tighter cut on the real pair.
Tongue Comparison

Tongue liner placement (red arrows): On the authentic, the orange liner sits slightly below the leather rim of the tongue—you see a clean green-leather edge all the way around. On the fake, the liner rides flush or peeks above that rim, which looks sloppy and is a common replica tell.
Jumpman patch geometry: Ignoring the orientation, the negative space between the Jumpman’s legs is wider on the real pair, giving a clear open “V.” On the fake, that gap is narrower, and the limbs look a bit thicker/less defined.
Box Comparison

Jumpman in the center coin:
Fake: Bright red Jumpman.
Real: White/grey Jumpman (no red).
UNDEFEATED tally bars (inside the coin):
Fake: Darker charcoal, high contrast, looks over-inked.
Real: Lighter grey, more balanced with the background.
Base box color/finish:
Fake: Warmer, off-grey tone with a slightly glossier, wrinkly cardboard—looks flimsy at the edges.
Real: Cooler, blue-tinted light grey with a smoother, cleaner surface.

Quick Recap: How to Spot a Fake AJ4 “UNDEFEATED”
Overall shape/scale: Fakes run underscaled—the toe looks sleeker/lower; authentic has a fuller vamp and truer AJ4 profile.
Cage placement: On the real pair the mesh frame sits nearly flush with the panel edges; the fake leaves a visible gutter.
Toe color: Fake uses a darker, muddier olive; real is a lighter, cleaner olive.
Eyestay spacing: Real eyestays are closer together (narrow lace channel); fake is wider.
Heel details: On fakes the NIKE AIR is oversized and crowding the edges; on reals there’s even side margin. The suede cut runs higher on fakes and lower on reals, giving the heel tab more room.
Air unit: Both show three posts, but on the fake one post is pushed outward, spacing is uneven, and the window is taller/thicker-rimmed/cloudier than the crisp authentic cut.
Tongue: Real keeps the orange liner tucked slightly below the tongue edge; fake sits flush or peeks above. The Jumpman patch on reals shows a wider clean “V” between the legs; fakes look cramped/thicker.
Box lid: Fake coin shows a red Jumpman and darker tally bars on a warmer, glossier grey box; real uses a white/grey Jumpman, lighter bars, and a cooler silver-grey with cleaner print.
Use 3–4 of these tells together (shape/scale, cage placement, heel cut, air-unit alignment, and box art) for a confident legit check.
