The latest addition to the Jordan Brand line of signature shoes is the Air Jordan 37 Raptors. The shoe, which is dressed in the popular “Raptors” color blocking, has a Lenoweave upper inspired by the Air Jordan 7 and is made using West African basket weaving techniques. A dynamic Formula 23 foam midsole is combined with a carbon fiber plate at the midfoot and a Zoom Air unit at the forefoot. In a nutshell, this shoe was designed to help you fly on the court like Mike.
First impressions of the Air Jordan 37 Raptors are that they look fast. The sleek black, true red and purple colorway is reminiscent of the Toronto Raptors’ uniforms. But it’s not all about looks—these shoes are built for performance.
What You Need To Know About The Air Jordan 37 Raptors
The Jordan 37’s upper is made of woven fabric and an “exoskeleton” that allows the shoe to retain its shape while providing flexibility. It is designed to breathe well and provide support to the foot. It also uses a three-layer design to provide support and structure without sacrificing flexibility. The exoskeleton offers the first layer of support, while the second layer consists of an ankle lock down with padding. The third layer is a high-backed heel counter that provides even more support. This compartmentalized design ensures that each section of the upper provides the necessary support without compromising on flexibility or comfort.
It is pretty obvious that Jordan Brand was thinking about lockdown support when they added all the padding to the ankle collar, as well as premium shoelace with more grit, so the shoe ties down better.
According to Zach Foot doctor, the Jordan 37 is a pretty durable shoe. He was originally worried that the soft leather toe cap guard would wear down quickly. So he tested it with the highest grit sandpaper, and found that it barely scuffed the surface. Even though it’s a softer material, it’s still pretty durable – it certainly will withstand the dragging on an outdoor court.
The midsole of the Air Jordan 37 Raptors features a dynamic Formula 23 foam that provides cushioning and support( that is at the heel). The Formula 23 foam midsole is then paired with a carbon fiber plate at the midfoot for added stability. The carbon fiber plate at the midfoot is then paired with a double stacked Zoom Air unit at the forefoot for responsive cushioning ( functions as a landing pad). Let me also mention that right above the carbon fiber shank is a layer of phylon for added comfort. So Jordan Brand was really throwing a lot at the wearers here. They definitely wanted to make sure you got all the cushioning you need.
The Jordan 37’s have great traction, especially on indoor surfaces . The irregularities in the outsole provide a great grip, and the different colors of rubber flow together nicely. There is very little wear after the outsole durability test ( only about 1 mm of damage).
Outdoor Vs Indoor Performance
The Jordan 37s are a bit of a letdown when it comes to outdoor performance. They don’t provide much jump force or springiness, and the overall design is quite dull. However, they are better suited for indoor use. They are livest on the hardwood floor because the indoor courts have more elasticity so they complement the shoe well. You definitely get the springy plush feel that the shoe is supposed to deliver. I would say they are best used on an indoor court with a nice layer of lacquer.
True to size.
