The Nike Air More Uptempo was first introduced in 1996 during the heyday of Nike Basketball, and it quickly became one of the most iconic shoes of the 1990s. Designed by legendary Nike designer Wilson Smith , the Uptempo was all about big, bold style, with its massive “AIR” branding on the sides and chunky silhouette. The shoe was synonymous with 1990s basketball culture, and it was worn by many of the era’s biggest stars i.e. Scottie Pippen to be more precise. But by releasing a plethora of frivolous colorways with little to no significant backstories, Nike has tainted this 90’s classic.  However, every now and then, the brand releases colorways that appear to be consistent with the essence of sneaker culture, and the upcoming Nike Air More Uptempo Volt belong to that category. I don’t believe Nike designed the Volt colorway with the SoleSavy community in mind, but the shoe will undoubtedly be cherished by the entire Volt Tuesday conglomerate. I hope you took the time to read through the entire story. If you did, you’ll see why I mentioned earlier that the upcoming Volt Uptempo would be greeted with open arms by the SoleSavy community. I wish brands would pay more attention to what genuine sneaker communities are up to.. When it comes to Nike and all sneaker brands, the bottom line is always going to be profits. However, that doesn’t mean that the brand should forget about creating meaningful shoes. There should be a symbiotic relationship between creating leverage and also serving the consumer that which he or she desires. By finding ways to serve both its bottom line and its consumers, Nike can continue to be a leader in the footwear industry. While Nike has not officially endorsed the SoleSavy community, and whether the brand created the colorway with them in mind or not is relevant. What matters is that the community can take something that Nike made and make it their own. And that is truly special. I’m looking forward to what they will do with these Uptempos.
