In my household, the New Balance 574 is a staple shoe. I recently ordered a pair online in a black and aqua colorway to surprise my son with a new pair of New Balances. However, when the package arrived, it was not the color I ordered. Instead, we received a maroon colorway, and to add to the confusion, the shoes were a size 10, even though my son wears sizes 11.5 and 12.
Despite the mix-up, I must admit that the maroon colorway is quite appealing. The shoes feature a soft suede upper, which feels incredibly smooth, unlike the hairy suede found on some sneakers. The New Balance logo and the quarter panel are made of synthetic leather, which feels like tumbled leather but is indeed synthetic.
A Closer Look At The New Balance 574 Maroon
The shoe’s construction includes a mesh material with a thick layer of foam for ankle cushioning, ensuring your ankle is well-protected. The textile liner inside also contains more foam, adding to the overall comfort. The plastic trim is a notable feature, providing sturdy support to prevent any foot wiggling.
The mesh on the toe and tongue is quite dense, which initially made me question the ventilation. However, based on my experience with other New Balance 574s, I’ve found that they offer adequate ventilation for both summer and winter wear.
One of the standout features of the New Balance 574 is the ENCAP midsole. It combines EVA and polyurethane, which provides exceptional cushioning. This design ensures that the shoes are comfortable for year-round wear, and I can attest to the effectiveness of this cushioning system.
It’s important to note that the New Balance 574 tends to run small. I usually wear sizes 12 to 12.5, but I opt for a size 13 in my New Balances. Therefore, I recommend ordering a size up for the best fit.
In terms of stability, the shoes are reliable, although they are a bit narrow. If you have a wide foot like mine, you’ll find them a bit stiff initially. However, after breaking them in, they become quite comfortable.
Overall, despite the initial mix-up, the New Balance 574 Maroon sneakers turned out to be an impressive pair of shoes with excellent cushioning, comfort, and stability.
