I just recently got my hands on the Core Black New Balance 574. As a high school math teacher who spends around seven hours a day on my feet, I’ve found that these shoes are a lifesaver. Last year, I had a pair in blue which I ended up gifting to someone during my travels back home, but I knew I needed a replacement, and fast.
I tried the NMD R1 in the OG color, but after five days I realized they were simply too uncomfortable. So, I turned back to what I knew best – the 574s. I also own a pair of On Cloud Stratus which I highly recommend as well. But for me, the classic 574s are unbeatable.
The shoe is constructed with pigskin suede leather which is incredibly rich and covers the back panels, middle panels, and portions of the forefoot. The top is made of mesh material, and the New Balance logo sits on the midsection, crafted from a soft, glossy, almost buttery leather.
A Closer Look At The Core Black NB 574
The ankle area is lined with a thick foam within a textile component, providing comfort and cushioning. The back tab features the New Balance logo on a layer of what feels like synthetic leather, and a sturdy plastic heel counter for stability.
The tongue of the shoe is an extension of the mesh material with additional suede portions. The midsole is made of an EVA component topped with a PU-like material for reinforcement and preventing bending. The outsole carries the typical 574 thread pattern and a plastic New Balance logo. One of my favorite aspects of the shoe is the foam material insole. It’s perfect for absorbing shock, which is essential for someone like me who’s constantly on their feet. The footbed comes with black stitching, adding an extra touch of detail.
In terms of fitting, the 574s are true to size. I’m a size 13, and they fit perfectly. The comfort they provide is almost indescribable. I can’t wait to wear them to work tomorrow knowing I’ll be comfortable on my feet again. The NMDs didn’t solve the problem, but these 574s do the trick.
