The Copycat-ism we’ve witnessed with major sneaker brands is hilarious; they are all taking their turn with resurrecting the 90’s through every sneaker release we’ve been served. The Adidas Yung 1 was inspired by the Falcon Dorf which made its debut in the 90’s. I’ve already talked about this 90’s phenomena in a post a week ago, here is an excerpt from it,
I don’t think it’s by accident that most brands are revitalizing the 90’s, they are trying to recapture a segment of the population ( obviously folks like me who grew up in the 90’s). All the classics that Nike is bringing back aren’t primarily intended for the youth. Brands are directly targeting a more mature audience and the reason is simple- old folks want to look good and they don’t mind spending the money. As they do so, they get to bring their kids along and indoctrinate them in the process. When people get older, their natural instinct is to teach younger people what they were taught or how they did things. And this is probably one reason why we see a lot of the themes of the 90’s making a comeback.
You’ll see that I brought up Goku in the title of the post and that’s because anyone that ever watched Dragon Ball knows that the orange colors the shoes are wrapped in is not an accident. Adidas certainly had the anime series in mind when the shoes were being manufactured- it parallels the concept of the 90’s. DBZ was very popular when I was growing up ( in the 90’s of course) so as soon as I saw the shoes, the only thing I could think of was Goku. I have to give the “Three Stripes” some props on this one. The Adidas Yung 1 will come in the two colorways below.
