In the sneaker world, there are counterfeit shoes and then there are FAKE shoes. Today, we’re going to focus on how to spot a fake Air Jordan 2 A Ma Maniere. Believe it or not, there are some pretty convincing knock-offs out there, so it pays to be vigilant. With a little knowledge and know-how, you can avoid being taken for a ride by unscrupulous sellers. So, without further ado, let’s get started!
NOTE: Sneakerheads is written primarily for a North American audience. For our European readers, please use “sneaker collectors” in place of “sneakerheads.” Thank you! Before we go into finding the nuances, it is always important that we go through preliminaries.
. Smell the shoes ( only if you’ve already made the purchase)
One of the dead giveaway is the smell/odor of the glue uses to construct the replicas. If the glue smell is really strong to the point of irritating your nostrils, then you’ve probably being dealt a counterfeit
.Proof of Purchase
Ask for a proof of purchase. Receipt must include details such as provenance, time of purchase, date and any other relevant information. If a seller is reluctant to provide that, I will strongly urge to refrain from following through with the purchase.
The craftsmanship on the fake pair is absolutely horrendous as you can see. The paint job is very sloppy. And you’ll also notice that the fake pair is missing the hang tag. I will show you a better picture of the midsole shortly.
You can see that the reptilian pattern on the midsole looks sloppy on the fake pair, see red rectangles. Also the double-stitching pointed out by the red arrows is too spaced out on the fake Air Jordan 2 A Ma Maniere.
You can clearly see the poor paint job on the toe box and the overly spaced out stitching near the throat line.
The reptilian pattern appears to have a white backdrop and looks cheap on the counterfeit pair ( see red rectangle). The green arrow shows you that the lining is burgundy on the authentic pair but black on the fakes. The red arrows show you that the double stitching is way too spaced out on the fakes.
No comments are really necessary here, the differences are so obvious. Both pairs are size 12’s but as you can see the fake pair appears smaller. The gap between the heel tab and the midsole is bigger on the real pair ( see red line). The heel pattern is chocolate brown on the real pair and burgundy on the fakes. The quilted pattern on the inside has more padding on the authentic pair.
The hangtag is not as wide on the fake pair as it is on the authentic one. The edges of the tag are brown on the authentic pair and the beads attaching the tag to the shoe are gold on the real pair but silver on the fakes.
The Fake Air Jordan 2 A Ma Maniere comes in a much smaller box. The “A Ma Maniere” text on the box is bolder on the real pair. The basketball has much bolder lines on the fakes ( see red arrows). And the authentic pair is off white while the fake pair comes in a snow white box.
The fake pair has a completely different label and also has a white bottom while the authentic pair has a black bottom.
There you have it folks, this post was derived from a video I watched on Youtube courtesy of Jacob Marcelius. This is probably one of the first batch of fakes, this is why the shoe looks horrendous. I’ll update the post as soon as a the fakes get an upgrade. You can check out our other real vs fake comparisons via the Legit Check page.
