I purchased a pair of Cool Grey 4 in 2019 when it was re-released for the 1st time since its original introduction. Little did I know how much they would grow in value within a 4 year span. They can be fetched now for as high as $500 in some sizes. With the popularity of the 4’s also comes the risk of the market being flooded with fakes. In this post, I’ll show you how to quickly spot and identify the Fake Air Jordan 4 Cool Grey.
First, let’s go through our preliminaries
Smell the shoes ( only if you’ve already made the purchase)
One of the dead giveaway is the smell/odor of the glue uses to construct the replicas. If the glue smell is really strong to the point of irritating your nostrils, then you’ve probably being dealt a counterfeit
.Proof of Purchase
Ask for a proof of purchase. Receipt must include details such as provenance, time of purchase, date and any other relevant information. If a seller is reluctant to provide that, I will strongly urge to refrain from following through with the purchase.
Toe Area: Real Vs Fake Air Jordan 4 Cool Grey
The grey color isn’t the same between both pairs, the authentic pair actually has a cool grey shade while the fake pair has more of a gainsboro or light gray shade.
Back
The differences are very clear when you zero in on the back side. The heel overlay is cut higher on the fake pair, see yellow lines. The Jumpman logo is of a lighter shade of silver on the real pair, see yellow arrows. And the bumps on the heel tabs are more vivid and pronounced on the authentic pair, see yellow squares.
Fake Jordan 4 Cool Grey Insoles
The surface of the fake pair’s insole is covered in what looks like mold ( you can see how spotty it is) in comparison to the authentic pair’s insole.
Ankle Liner
The fake cool grey 4 has a much thicker ankle liner and the material used between both pairs isn’t the same. The lines on the textile are more vivd on the replica pair, see yellow arrows.
Box & Label
The box label is more aged on the authentic pair, see red circle.
There are several things on the label that are different. The font of the letters on the fake pair’s label is clearly bolder ( see red squares and rectangles). The MSRP sticker is missing on the fake label, see green arrows. The red arrow shows you that the gap between the “4” and the “R” is much smaller on the fake pair’s label.
The fake box is slightly not as wide as the authentic pair’s box, see red gap and arrow.
There you have it folks, hopefully you’ll be able to spot any fake Cool Grey Air Jordan 4 with these tips. I leaned on Jacob Marcellus’ video for this post as well. You can also watch the entire video , see presentation below
