Once upon a time, in the bustling city of St. Louis, a young basketball prodigy named Jayson Tatum was making waves with his incredible skills. He wanted to share his life story and personal interests through something he held dear – a signature shoe with the iconic Jordan brand, and the rest is history.
We’ve already been graced with two colorways of the Tatum 1s, and the next one in line is the Air Jordan Tatum 1 Pink Lemonade, inspired by Tatum’s favorite drink, an ice-cold glass of pink lemonade. The shoe certainly captures the essence of this refreshing beverage.
In February, the sneaker world caught a glimpse of this vibrant shoe when it was previewed alongside the official debut of his first colorway. The shoe showcased a dominant “Pink Tint” upper, reminiscent of the sweet lemonade he loved. To complete the look, “Barley Volt” accents adorned the TPU caging system underfoot, along with the embroidered Jumpman and JT insignias.
But the creativity didn’t stop there. “Aurora Green” accents graced the trim of the sole unit, as well as the spine’s branding and mesh tongue construction. And for a delightful finishing touch, slices of lemons were placed along the insoles, forever linking the shoe to the refreshing drink that inspired it all. The chart above gives us a breakdown of the average sale price of the shoe since June 15, 2023. Prices went from $148 on 6/15 up to $155 the very next day, then down to $151 on the 17th and $140 on the 18th. They are currently $149, thus indicating a positive trend overall. Let’s see what the five number summary reveals and draw some conclusions.
Minimum: 132
Quartile Q1: 137
Median: 141
Quartile Q3: 154.5
Maximum: 224
The lowest sale recorded was $132 for a size 12.5 while the highest sale was $224 for a size 14 ( makes sense, it’s a large size). About 25% of the shoes sold between $132 and $137 ( see next chart for sizes), while half of them sold between $137 and $155. The top 25% sales were from $155 to $224 and there were four outliers i.e $184, $186, $187 and $224 corresponding to sizes 13,13,13 and 14. The overall average resale value of the shoe without the outliers is $145, with an 8% volatility.
At $145, you’re looking at +$5 profit margin, a 4% mark up ( below average). But this is still good news in light of the fact that Nike basketball division has been struggling a whole lot. Retailers that carry this model are definitely going to see them fly of their shelves. The combination of an incredible shoe and a solid backstory always produce good results. For resellers, unless you’re buying the shoe from the Nike Employee store or discounted, don’t expect to bring in any homerun like profits. The next chart will show you the current earnings by size sold.
As you can see from the chart above, the best sizes to target for Day Traders are sizes 11.5,12 13 and 14, basically larger sizes. They lead to margins between $15 and $77 with sizes 13 and 14 being the only ones I’ll recommend. The good news here as I already stated was for retailers, as you can see from the chart, prices are above retail for every single size sold, which means that retailers are going to have a field day with this colorway.
I wrote an extensive performance review of The Tatum 1 I would encourage you to read. The shoe’s functional attributes is probably one of the main reasons why they are relatively on demand.
