The Nike SB Dunk Low Street Hawker aka Chinese New Year is set to release officially on January the 13th, and retails for $110. The colors on the shoes were inspired by the beloved Chinese cuisine that is celebrated and cherished worldwide. About half a dozen delicious dishes make up the entire uppers of the Nike SB Street Hawker. Here is a quick description of the shoe courtesy of Nike,
Watercolor graphics bring each meal to life, while a host of other deliberate details—including Chinese characters on each heel and an embroidered copper coin—nod to surrounding aspects of Eastern culinary culture. Feed your need for SB’s latest appetizing creation before our kitchen closes for the night.
This morning, we’ll try to figure out how many possible pairs of this model could be made and its resale value. First let’s get a count of the stockists that were allocated an inventory.
Major Retailers: Nike Snkrs US, Nike Snkrs EU
These are pretty much most of the boutiques that were confirmed. Now let’s set up our assumptions
We’ll go with the following:
- We’ll give Nike ( US and EU) 70% of the total inventory
- The boutiques mentioned will receive 30% of the inventory
- each boutique will be given 100 pairs ( this is the toughest part about the projection)
Running The Numbers:
Boutiques’ allocation= 100 x 22=2200 pairs, to be safe I will stretch this number to a 2500 ( reason being, there might be some boutiques that I’ve omitted)
This number represents about 30% of the entire production, so to find the entire production, we’ll go with the following:
Total production= (2500)+(2500)+(2500)+(334)=8334 pairs and we can conclude that our projected numbers of pairs will be anywhere between
8,000 pairs < Total Number of pairs made < 15,000 pairs
PS: As you all know, I always have to add this disclaimer because every single projection that I make is purely based on assumptions that I have set. It is meant to give you an idea of what to expect, I don’t work any of these brands/retailers I mentioned and have no access to their numbers. I’m only using what is available to create plausible assumptions.
Now let’s talk about the resale value of the Nike SB Street Hawker
The chart above is breakdown of the average resale value of the Nike SB Street Hawker per day. You’ll see that overall the shoe is reselling for values in the high $900’s and low $1200’s. You’ll see that on Thursday , there was record high sale at $2300, which is probably an outlier at this point. I actually did the fiver number summary and came up with the following numbers
the average resale value based all on the records was $1149 ( this is only if we include the $2300 outlier). So I recalculated the average resale value after removing the outlier and came up with $1077. I’m pretty sure that by the time the shoe releases, this value might decrease by 5% to 15% so we’ll project that overall average resale value of the Street Hawker will sit between $900 and $1000.
Now let’s look at the sizes with the highest margins
You can pretty much see that size 12 recorded the highest return at $2300. The problem with this data is that the sample size is too small ( this is only for one single size), so we can’t make a strong inference on that. The other sizes’ prices are consistent with our previous assessment. So based on these findings, profit margins will sit between $700 and $800 for margins between 598% and 678%. You know exactly what this means.
