After a decade-long absence, we’re just two days from the much-anticipated return of a sneaker that’s left an indelible mark on the history of footwear – the Air Jordan 8 Playoffs. Last sighted in 2013, this iconic shoe is making its comeback on its 30th anniversary.
For those unfamiliar, the Playoffs 8 made its debut back in 1993 when Michael Jordan clashed with the Phoenix Suns in Game 6 of the post-season playoffs. This release certainly breaks the monotony of the familiar silhouettes we’ve been seeing for the past five years – the 1’s, 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, and 5’s.
The shoe will retain its original allure, dressed in a striking Black, True Red, and White color scheme. Staying true to its roots, it features the classic graphic overlays on the mudguards and outsole, as well as its original Red pull tabs, unlike the Black ones used in the previous retro release. And the best part? It’ll be available in family sizing. So gear up for this exciting return, it’s a classic that’s sure to make a statement once again. For purchase purposes, see details below

Stock Numbers
A total of 88,193 pairs were released via Nike by early access. I’m assuming it constituted about 1/4 of the total inventory produced. If that’s the case, then it is very probable that close to 400,000 pairs will be allocated to the US alone. I’ll provide more accurate number by September the 28th, stay tuned.
Now let’s see how the shoe is performing on third party marketplaces.
Resale Value: Jordan 8 Retro Playoffs
The chart above gives us a breakdown of the average sale price of the shoe since September 7, 2023. As you can see from the records, prices went from $220 to $229 , thus increasing by $9 within a 24 hour span. But this could be due to size variations so let’s see what the five number summary reveals.
Minimum: 204
Quartile Q1: 218
Median: 221
Quartile Q3: 223.25
Maximum: 293
The lowest sale recorded was $204 for a size 10 while the highest was $293 for a size 9,16 and 11.5, this is an anomaly. About 25% of the shoes sold between $204 and $218 ( see next chart for sizes), while half of them sold betwen $218 and $223.25. The top 25% sales were from $223.25 to $293 and there were six outliers, $204,$209,$209, $293,$293, and $293 corresponding to sizes 10,10.5, 10.5, 9,11.5 and 16.
With these outliers disregarded, the overall average resale value is $222 with a very low volatility of 2%. So you can expect about 95% of the shoes to sell between $214 and $230, leading to losses between -$28 and -$14. The next chart will show you the current returns by size sold.
As you can see from the chart above, at the exception of size 16, every other size led to a loss or no profit. So if you’re a Day Trader, this is certainly not a shoe you want to attempt to resell less you suffer major losses. This is definitely great news for buyers who will be able to probably scoop a pair for retail or a little less. Retailers are definitely going to have a field day selling these as the demand is relatively high. But as far as the secondary market is concerned, this shoe isn’t worth the investment.
