The Jordan 11 is one of the most iconic sneakers of all time. Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released in 1996, the sneaker was originally built for Michael Jordan to wear during the 1995-1996 NBA season. The shoe was so popular that it was released to the public in November 1996 and has been retroed numerous times since then. In recent years, however, Nike has been releasing too many irrelevant colorways of the shoe, which has somewhat diminished its iconic status. For example, in 2016 Nike released a “Velvet” version of the Jordan 11 that was met with much criticism from sneakerheads. Most people agreed that the shoe was completely unnecessary. But this plea has fallen on deaf ears as another uninspiring colorway is seeing the light-the women’s Air Jordan 11 Midnight Navy.
This upcoming colorway features a Midnight Navy base with nubuck replacing the traditional mesh build as well as velvet used instead of patent leather. A White midsole atop a Navy semi-translucent outsole completes the design. The shoe was clearly built for the colder seasons but it’s hard to see how women can style it without looking like they’re going to a formal event. The navy blue velvet material is not practical for everyday wear and it’s hard to imagine anyone wanting to rock these sneakers on a casual basis. If Nike wants to keep the Air Jordan 11 relevant, they need to start releasing more classic colorways like the “Bred” or “Concord.”

Jordan 11 Midnight Navy: Resale Value
The chat above provides us with a breakdown of the shoe’s average sale price by size, as well as the returns associated with each. As the records show, every single sale resulted in a loss. The verdict on this shoe is unequivocal: do not attempt to resell it. This is most likely another instance of the sneaker being sold at the Nike Employee Store for up to 50% off the retail price. That is the only way third-party sellers can sell it at or near the MSRP. I’d go so far as to say that retailers will struggle to get the shoes off their shelves quickly.
I won’t be surprised if they go on sale within the next 3 to 6 months. If you’re buyer, I would advise you to be patient and wait for the right time to pull the trigger on this colorway. Be sure to check out our projection page for other sneakers we discussed this week.
