The Air Jordan 5 Anthracite will release officially on February the 6th and retails for $190. The shoe features an anthracite, wolf grey and black upper wrapped in suede and textile materials. The interesting feature on this particular edition is the 3M reflective component that has been moved from the outside of the tongue to the panel’s netting and the extension of the tongue. Additional details include the #23 at the heel, the jumpman logo gracing both the back, the outside of the tongue as well as the sockliner. Finishing off the shoe is a speckled midsole at the forefoot , accompanied by an icy outsole. This morning we’ll try to figure out how many pairs were made and the shoe current resale value. To do that, we’ll need to figure out the stockists allocated an inventory beside Nike
Now comes the hardest part, which is setting up our assumptions. When I was checking for the footlocker locations that were allocated, I only found one store located in Los Angeles.
- Footlocker and Eastbay will receive about 1/3 of the inventory
- Hibbett and the rest of the of the stockists will be given 1/3 as well
- And Nike Snkrs will also receive 1/3
- The footlocker store will be given 500 pairs
- Eastbay will receive half of the inventory Footlocker receives
Footlocker’s stock= 500 pairs
Eastbay’s stock=250 pairs
Total from FTL and Eastbay= 750 pairs
We assumed that this was 1/3 of the total inventory, hence the total inventory will be
Total= 750 x 3=2250 pairs
Because of possible errors in my assumptions I will say that the actual total number of pairs made will be : 2250 pairs < Total Pairs Made < 3000 pairs
PS: As you all know, I always have to add this disclaimer because every single projection that I make is purely based on assumptions that I have set. It is meant to give you an idea of what to expect, I don’t work any of these brands/retailers I mentioned and have no access to their numbers. I’m only using what is available to create plausible assumptions.
Now let’s talk about the resale value of the Jordan 5 anthracite.
The chart above gives you a breakdown of the average resale value by day since January the 21st. The is an irregular value that occurred on January the 21st, at $500. This is probably from an impulsive buyer that pulled the trigger too quick. You can clearly see that the shoe has an overall average resale value in the low $300’s and I don’t expect it to change much by the time it officially releases. It is important that we also check out sizes with the highest margins since the chart above gives you only the averages per day not by size.
sizes 7.5, 11.5, 14 and 15 recorded the highest returns ranging from ($326- $350), these are sizes that are harder to come by so it makes sense. The other sizes were consistent with the $300 average resale value projected. The shoe retails for $202 after tax so profit margins will range within the ($71-$115) for mark ups within the (35% -57%). The shoe is certainly going to sell out.
