The Air Jordan 4 Lightning is making its long awaited return on Saturday August the 28th and will retail for $220. Now I’m not sure why Jordan Brand is charging $220 for them. Is there a reason why they should be selling for that much? When I say reason, I’m talking about additional perks that are included with the shoe. The last General Release Jordan 4 that dropped was the Tech White 4 and it retailed for $190. Has Jordan Brand justified the $30 increase on the Lightning 4?
This morning we’ll attempt to come up with an estimate of the number of pairs produced and their current resale value. But first, let’s get a count of the major and minor retailers given an inventory beside Nike.
Now let’s set up our assumptions
We’ll go with the following:
- FTL, FTA, Champs and Eastbay will receive 30% of the total inventory
We’ll also add the following assumptions:
- Each regular FTL will receive about 12 pairs, while FTA and Champs will be assigned 12 pairs per store
- Their online stores will receive about a 1/3 of the total the physical stores are receiving
- Eastbay will also receive another 1/3 from the total FTL, FTA and Champs online are receiving.
- HOH locations will be given about 48 pairs each
Running The Numbers:
FTL Physical stores=830 x 12= 9960pairs
HOH = 170 x48=8160 pairs
FTA Physical stores=210×12= 2520 pairs
Champs Physical stores= 547x 12=6564 pairs
Online allocation ( FTL + FTA + Champs)=27204/3=9068pairs
Eastbay= 9068/3=3023 pairs
Total from FTL, FTA, Champs and Eastbay = (9960+ 8160+ 2520+6564+9068+3023) pairs =39295 pairs let’s say 40,000 pairs because of possible errors in the assumptions
We already established that this number represented about30% of the entire production for North America so the grand total would be:
T= 3 x (40,000) pairs + (40,000)/3=133334 pairs let say 140,000 pairs
Since this number only represents the production for North America, we can conclude that the total number of pairs made would fall within the
140,000 < Number of Possibly Pairs Made< 280,000
PS: As you all know, I always have to add this disclaimer because every single projection that I make is purely based on assumptions that I have set. It is meant to give you an idea of what to expect, I don’t work any of these brands/retailers I mentioned and have no access to their numbers. I’m only using what is available to create plausible assumptions.
Air Jordan 4 Lightning Resale Value
The data I collected only gives you a summary of the average value for August the 21st which is today. Based on that information, the average resale value for the Lightning Jordan 4 is $305. I’m pretty confident that this number will drop by 5% to 15% by the time the shoe officially releases. So the average resale value comes Saturday August the 28th will fall within the $260-$290 range. Folks are looking at profit margins within the $30-$50 interval. The shoe will certainly sell out but don’t expect to make homeruns on it.
