I would have never written this post if I hadn’t received a message from Footlocker asking me to promote the Air Jordan 3 True Blue in return for an upgraded commission. Now that should tell you a lot about what retailers are going through because places like Footlocker seldom gives any kickback on marquee launch releases like the True blue 3. The last time we saw this colorway was in 2016 and I believe it came with a Jumpman logo on the back.
Nike is still trying to connect with OG collectors by bringing this shoe back with the classic ” Nike Air” logo on the back that was seen on the 1988 release. Does that actually create any sort of emotional connection with the shoes with me, absolutely zero but there are some that are still holding on to a thread of nostalgia and they might going after it. If you’re one of those seeking to get your hands on a pair, refer to the details below.

Now let’s talk about the shoe’s current resale value for those out there still trying to make a buck on Nike sneakers, is it worth flipping?
Is the Jordan 3 True Blue Worth Reselling?
Let’s collect some data and see what the numbers are saying because they certainly don’t lie. We’ll first lean on our five number summary and then check out the shoe’s current resale value by size and then draw some conclusions.
Lowest Sale: $161
Q1: $178
Q3: $201
Highest Sale: $240
Average Sale Price: $188.56
Based on our five number summary, the lowest sale recorded thus far was $161, corresponding to a size 8, while the highest sale recorded was $240, size 14. About 1/4 of the shoes sold between $161 and $178, while 50% of the them sold between $178 and $201 and the top 25% sold between $201 and $240. There was only one outlier, $240 ( corresponding to the size 14 I already mentioned). The overall average selling price was $188.56, that’s about 23% below retail price. So if you were to sell this shoe for the current selling price on third party marketplaces, you’d be losing about -$55. Unless you’re getting that shoe at a wholesale price, I wouldn’t recommend engaging in any attempt to resell it. Even at $240, which is an outlier by the way, not considering shipping and selling fees, you’re still in the hole and losing about -$4.
Maybe you’re not convinced enough and need more proofs, let’s look at the current resale by size as well as the returns ( profit/ loss) associated with each.
Resale Value By size
| US Size | Average Resale Price | Net After 9% Fee | Profit / Loss |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 | $162.00 | $147.42 | -$95.58 |
| 7.5 | $184.00 | $167.44 | -$75.56 |
| 8 | $161.00 | $146.51 | -$96.49 |
| 8.5 | $163.25 | $148.56 | -$94.44 |
| 9 | $182.86 | $166.40 | -$76.60 |
| 9.5 | $183.75 | $167.21 | -$75.79 |
| 10 | $183.27 | $166.78 | -$76.22 |
| 10.5 | $190.50 | $173.36 | -$69.64 |
| 11.5 | $199.50 | $181.55 | -$61.45 |
| 12 | $205.43 | $186.94 | -$56.06 |
| 12.5 | $212.00 | $192.92 | -$50.08 |
| 13 | $227.00 | $206.57 | -$36.43 |
| 14 | $240.00 | $218.40 | -$24.60 |
- Every single size is currently unprofitable based on the resale data you collected.
- Even the best-performing size (US 14) would still lose about $24.60 after marketplace fees.
- The worst sizes (US 8 and US 7) would lose roughly $96 per pair, representing nearly 40% of your investment.
- The larger sizes (12.5–14) perform noticeably better than the smaller sizes, but none are profitable enough to justify purchasing for resale.
What’s the takeaway, should you try to resell the Jordan 3 True Blue? Unless resale prices rise significantly after release, the Air Jordan 3 True Blue is shaping up to be a poor investment for resellers. At a total acquisition cost of $243, every size currently results in a loss after a standard 9% marketplace fee, with losses ranging from approximately $25 to nearly $100 per pair. From a purely financial standpoint, this release is one that resellers should strongly consider passing on. This is great news for collectors though.
