Ethan Ellis designed the Air Jordan 14 DB Doernbecher and shared via Nike the stories behind the elements he incorporated on the shoe. Ethan was born a hypo plastic left heart syndrome, a condition where the left heart of his heart is underdeveloped. Because this deficiency in his heart, he had to endure 6 open heart surgeries and by the grace of the Living God he has survived to tell his story through the Jordan 14 and give glory to the God who provided the surgeons. Here is what the key elements of the shoe represent:
Colors-reference his favorite college team, the TCU Hornet Frogs
No-6- on the heel represents the number of surgeries he went through
Laces- they feature the names of the hospitals that hosted him
On the tongue- Lil Rey, a fellow patient who was given the same treatment Ethan received
Space needle stands for the city where he received a heart transplant in 2019. For more on the story visit Nike.com

I’m sure folks want to know how many pairs were produced and my initial subjective take on it will be 1600 pairs since Ethan is 16. But this is the worst way to make a projection so let’s use the empirical method. We’ll take a quick count on the number of retailers given an inventory; per my investigation beside Nike, the only confirmed retailers are DTLR/Ruvilla and ShoePalace. So how can we evaluate the number of pairs made with so little information? Well I came across the information below via Nike, see screenshot below
So based on the image above, the SNKRS Pass has provided four locations and the “First Come, First Serve” also provided four locations, so in total we have 8 stores. The biggest challenge is to set up our assumptions:
1.Based on the information above I’ll assume that Nike will take a 3/4 of the production while 1/4 will go to DTLR/Ruvilla and Shoepalace.
2.We’ll also assign an average of 300 pairs per Nike Store
3. We’ll also assume that the Nike online will be given a 1/3 of the allocation the stores are receiving
Total from Nike ( stores)= 8 x 300 =2400 pairs
Total from Nike ( online)=800 pairs
Total from Nike= 3200 pairs
Since we assume that DTLR/Ruvilla and Shoepalace will receive 1/4, their allocation combined will be:
3200/4= 800 pairs.
Total number of pairs made from based on our assumptions will be :
Grand Total= 3200 +800= 4000 pairs
PS: As you all know, I always have to add this disclaimer because every single projection that I make is purely based on assumptions that I have set. It is meant to give you an idea of what to expect, I don’t work any of these brands/retailers I mentioned and have no access to their numbers. I’m only using what is available to create plausible assumptions.
