I was scrolling through my facebook page and came across a post from an individual who had a fair amount of the Air Jordan 1 University Blue. The shoe does not officially release till March the 6th, so you an I know that the sneakers being offered for sale are most likely fakes. I shared a post a few days ago in which I talked about the new breed of fakes on the market, see link below
What can you do to avoid the Fake Air Jordan 1 University Blue? The most logical answer is -wait till they release officially and attempt to buy them via retailers like Footlocker, Finishline or the likes. I already know how it is almost impossible to score a shoe via retail in this day and age. So your other alternative is to get it from reputable marketplaces like Goat, StockX or via eBay authenticity guaranteed. You can also go through the steps below to avoid being taken advantage of.
1. Smell the shoes ( only if you’ve already made the purchase)
One of the dead giveaway is the smell/odor of the glue uses to construct the replicas. If the glue smell is really strong to the point of irritating your nostrils, then you’ve probably being dealt a counterfeit
2.Proof of Purchase
Ask for a proof of purchase. Receipt must include details such as provenance, time of purchase, date and any other relevant information. If a seller is reluctant to provide that, I will strongly urge to refrain from following through with the purchase.
Now I was able to fetch some pictures of the legitimate pair via reputable youtubers. I pinned the pictures against images of the replicas and here are some of the nuances that I’ve noticed.
There is a recurring problem with the tumbled leather material used on most fake sneakers. You’ll notice in the pictures above that the leather has a very rough texture on the fake pair, you can recognize it by looking at the excessive wrinkles on it ( see yellow circles). The tumbled leather is supposed to feature subtle wrinkles. Even the wrinkles on the swoosh logo of the fake pair are more pronounced.
Another problem area with the fake jordan 1’s is the tongue tab. The “AIR” letters are much bigger on the authentic pair, there is almost no space between the bottom of the tab and both the swoosh and the “AIR” text on the authentic pair. But you’ll also see that there is spacing between the top of the tab and the “Nike” text on the authentic pair.
On the box label you’ll notice that the “8.5” is much thicker on the authentic pair, you’ll also see that the “26.5” is much bigger on the authentic pair’s label.
You’ll see how much thicker the “7.5” is on the authentic pair’s label, this is just to confirm my earlier comment. But you’ll also notice that the “euro” and the “uk” sizing are not as bold on the authentic pair’s label. This is to emphasize the “USA” size. But on the fake air jordan 1 university blue label, the boldness is the same between the “USA” and the other countries sizes.
There you have it folks, as soon as the shoe officially releases , I’ll do my best to get my hands on a pair for a much richer comparison.
