The self-lacing Nike Adapt BB 2.0 was designed by Ben Nethongkome who drew his inspiration from the Nike Kyrie 5 and 6. The shoe incorporates the DNA of the original version but with many improvements such as the Air Zoom unit Turbo added to Cushlon cushioning or the midsole which has been redesigned for better movement from the toe box to the heel. The general design has also been modified for easier donning. The two luminous buttons located on the sole serve as the adjusting pieces. The shoe has a $400 retail price and I’m hoping that Nike will soon revise this. It certainly not made for the average ” hooper”; lacing one’s shoe is part of the ritual of being an authentic basketball player. Most guys go on the court with their sandals on their feet, and basketball shoes in their hands. Then once at the court, shoes are laced up and the game begins. I understand the practicality of having a self-lacing shoe but honestly, it’s just another gimmick to create some more revenues.
