A few days before the 2016 Thanksgiving celebrations, I was in my local House Of Hoops and spotted quite a striking pair of shoes: it was the New Balance NB 990V4 Thanksgiving Day. They were housed in a very special packaging including a miniature dummy turkey and other accessories. The store manager wouldn’t let me take a picture and actually informed me that the shoes weren’t going to be sold to the general public, and were being sent back to the manufacturer. I tried my best to snap a picture but to no success; well last week’s thursday I was back in my local mall and to my surprise the shoes are now available for purchase, but will not include the special packaging.
The shoes come in Thanksgiving themed colors featuring gold bronze, red, grey and white. They are dressed in a multi layer upper made up of premium pigskin leather with breathable mesh underlays. NB branding will grace the quarter panel and the customary “N” logo will come with 3M reflective details on the side panels. Additional logos can be spotted on the outside of the tongue, the back and the sockliner. Cushioning is an integral part of the 990 model with the use of the ENCAP technology on the midsole ( a combination of a core EVA encapsulated in a PU shell for superior cushioning). New Balance has also made some improvement with the version 4 of the 990’s to enhance breathability.
