The Rosherun line has certainly hit a wall with the rise of the NMD’s and Nike has since tried to find a counter for their nemesis Adidas to no apparent success. Even bringing back the racers in conservative and brighter colors has done little to disrupt the NMD’s. Last week I was in my local mall and came across the Nike Duel Racer; I had never heard of them before and was quickly ready to throw some jabs at Nike for trying to copy Adidas so much until I found out more about the shoes.
They were inspired by the Nike Duelist a shoe that was introduced by Nike in 1988. This has been a recurring theme for many brands, bringing back their beloved classic sneakers, and revamping them with better materials and techs.
If you look close enough, the shoes bear a lot of similarities to the aesthetic of the Adidas NMD or vice versa ( who copied who? lol). With the amount of sneakers sitting on shelves at local malls, Nike’s edit and amplify is in full effect; the brand will mainly focus on functionality and products that yield the most sales, something they should have done a long time ago.
The Nike Duel Racer features a breathable mesh upper with synthetic leather overlays; a large swoosh logo will cover each panel , and the forefoot overlay will be intertwined with the adjustable lacing system. The shoes have a sock- like inner design aroudn the ankle ( very similar to the New Balance 247) and sport a heel tab for an easy entry and exit. Completing the shoes is a molded sole with 3 densities of foam for maximum cushioning.
