The Air Jordan 12 Gym Red is releasing this week end and my assignment this afternoon is to come up with a believable estimate of the number of pairs produced. I went my local mall yesterday and was able to secure a size 10.5 in the shoes ( that in itself says a lot about how easy they’ll be to acquire). I was also told by the local manager of the FTL I was visiting that their location had received about 36 pairs of the Jordan 11 Concord #45. I’m mentioning this because this particular location doesn’t usually receive this many units so this confirms that the Concord 11’s have been definitely mass produced, see my post below for more information
This post is about the Gym Red 12’s so let me stick to the topic at hand. Most major and minor retailers are getting the shoes, and a manager from one of the minor chains told me that his location alone received about 49 pairs. To come up with our estimate, we’ll consider the following assumptions
.Footlocker & derivatives ( FTA, Champs) receive about 1/4 of the inventory
.Each physical FTL receives 36 pairs, FTA and Champs probably 24 pairs
And their online counterparts ( Eastbay included) will receive about a quarter of the inventory the physical locations will be allocated.
- North America has a little over 500 active Footlocker stores, 547 Champs stores and 272 Footaction stores and those are the ones that will be considered.
Physical Stores: Footlocker ( 1000 x 36) + Champs ( 570 x 24) + Footaction (272 x 24)=56208 pairs
Online locations: A quarter of the total number 56208/4=14052
let’s not forget give Eastbay a 1/4 of the total from the FTL,FTA, Champs online combined
So the Total from Footlocker and derivatives = 56208 +3513+14052 =73773 let’s round it off to 75000
And now the Grand total is based on our earlier assumptions: 75000 x4=300,000
You should be able to grab a pair from your local mall if you want to actually go out on Saturday morning and do some shopping. I do not think the shoes are going to sell out instantly. Retailers should expect the Gym Red 12’s to sell relatively well though.
The shoes were already available via third party marketplaces about two weeks ago and I wrote about how that could affect retailers, see link below
