I’m a 90’s baby so my patience for depth less things is close to zero. I don’t claim to be a know it all either for I’m aware that I know nothing. When brands begin to monetize everything and it becomes obvious to the consumer then something is wrong. At the end of the day, the brand is trying to make money, I get it but ” making money” shouldn’t be so obvious to the consumer. Nike has adulterated the uptempo sneakers and it’s appalling. How many of the NY inspired Nike air More uptempos do we need?
Let me give you a list of all the uptempos that have dropped over the past couple of years: OG black/white uptempo, triple white uptempo, 3m uptempo, Red & black uptempo, lightbone uptempo, navy blue uptempo, bulls uptempo, PIP uptempo, wheat uptempo, tri color uptempo, supreme uptempo, NYC uptempo. I might have even missed some colorways. Now Nike is onto some city inspired uptempos; this is definitely a terrible move and it’s certainly going to backfire on Nike. The brand has every right do what they want with their products, but I believe the consumer’s sentiment matters as well. The uptempo is a classic shoe; for guys who grew up in the 90’s, the uptempo reminded is more than a shoe, it carries with it emotions and lifetime memories. This NYC Nike Air more uptempo shouldn’t have been made; I’m not from New York but I don’t know if grey and black resonate with the city of New york at all. I may be wrong but what do you guys think? Do you like these shoes?
