Nike has been dropping some very impressive sneakers as of late and the retros we’ve been served have not disappointed at all. The Jordan 5 PSG released last week and is being followed up by the Air Jordan 5 Wings, a shoe packed with a very compelling message. We all know that the city of Chicago has been dubbed as Chiraq because of the extreme gun violence that it has been subjected to. And the most affect folks are the youth, so in an effort to provide a safe community and mentorship for these young boys and girls, Jordan Brand created the Wings initiative. The artwork covering the entire shoe was designed by students at Little Black Pearl Art & Design Academy , a non-profit cultural arts center serving Chicago’s youth.
HOW MANY PAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE?
I was trying to figure out how many pairs were made and there is absolutely no data or information available to work with. We haven’t been provided with a list of stockists getting the shoe but one thing i’m sure of is that only Chicago retailers/boutiques will carry them. There are only 4 recorded sales on eBay ( and the shoes sold could be fake) and there are no sales at all that occurred via StockX so there is really nothing at our disposal to make an objective projection. All I can lean on at this point is a piece of information I’ve gathered from the About Us page on the Little Black Pearl’s site and I could be totally wrong about making an assertion based on that.
What we do at LBP
LBP works diligently to counter the challenges urban youth face by providing a safe environment, positive role models, and rigorous program and skill development activities and opportunities. Our 18-year history has successfully proven that it is possible to marry art and entrepreneurship through real life application of talent, interest and skills. At Little Black Pearl, youth feel safe and open to exploring, expressing and challenging their ideas and feelings through art. The combination of art and business bring out innate talents and shows youth the value of their work. They learn lifelong skills; enhance their self-esteem and benefit from the sale of their art. A wide array of works of art created by youth in programs and workshops provided by Little Black Pearl are available for purchase through the Art and Design Center
