The Nike Kyrie 3 Bruce lee ” kobe Mentality” couldn’t have emerged at a better time; controversies surrounding Kyrie Irving and his recent trade to the Celtics might have just breathed some life into Nike Basketball, which has experienced a considerable decline in the past year.
I wasn’t aware of the similarities between kobe and Kyrie until recently; Irving has been very frustrated with playing alongside king James, both of these marquee players have very strong personalities which made for a very rocky relationship. Well it makes sense because Kyrie Irving doesn’t want his career to be overshadowed by LJ, it was said of Irving that,
he wants his own team, he wants to be a Batman and not a Robin
This remind me of kobe’s own brittle relationship with Shaq in the glory days of the Lakers. We all wonder what could have happened had they stayed together for another five years. Anyway, Nike gave a very interesting narrative about the connection between kobe and Kyrie, which started when the latter was 17. According to Nike,
Wisdom, focus and individuality bond them. Specifically, Bryant and Irving are inspired by Lee’s famous words, “Always be yourself. Express yourself. Have faith in yourself.”
Irving is intimately aware of this connection, and first expressed it when he was 17 while playing in the Nike Extravaganza in California. He channeled his inner mamba by wearing a special Kobe 5 that was inspired by the late martial artist, actor and philosopher, Lee. Now 25, Irving commemorates that moment and pays tribute to Byrant as mentor and friend with a special edition of the KYRIE 3: the KYRIE 3 Mamba Mentality.
