The Drew league was established in 1973 with about 6 teams by its founder Alvin wills; he had the idea to create this as a safe haven for South Central Los Angeles Teenagers where they could learn life lessons via basketball. Basically establishing meaningful relationships that would transition for the court to the neighborhood and also a place to bring pro players back into the community. Today the league has total of 28 “invitation-only” teams, and has hosted some of the NBA greatest i.e kobe Bryant, Lebron James, James Harden, john Wall only to name a few.
You can’t have basketball without sneakers, and a lot of these players use these sneakers not only for performance purposes but as an extension of they are ( fashion statement). Nike is releasing two exclusive shoes, the Drew League 2017 Nike Hyperdunk Low to pay homage to the city of Chicago Los Angeles. Both sneakers will bear uppers with graffiti like patterns reminiscent of their dense street culture. Co- Branded Drew league and Nike logos will cover the outside of the tongue and the side panels; and each shoe will feature its own city name on the back panel, check out the pictures below. I doubt these would be available to the general public but stay tuned for further updates.
