The Air Jordan 8 Rui Hachimura aka Black Samurai is a shoe that was inspired by Japanese culture and the journey of Rui Hachimura. he is a Japanese professional basketball player for the Washington Wizards of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Gonzaga Bulldogs. As a junior in 2018–19, he was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year and consensus first-team All-American. In 2019, he was selected as the ninth overall pick by the Wizards in the NBA draft. Rui was born to a Japanese mother and a Beninese father, making him biracial. Because of this, he faced many challenges growing up in a homogeneous culture. However, when he immigrated to the United States, he found inspiration in the range of American culture. He began to thrive in finding his own identity. Now, by sharing his journey from Japan to America to the league, he hopes to inspire others to discover themselves, to find pride and hope in their differences.
The Air Jordan 8 “Black Samurai” features textured Twine-colored suede inspired by Japanese artwork and highlighted with court purple, university gold, and black accents. Rui Hachimura has said that he wants people to know that it’s okay to be different, and that through shared experiences we can all find common ground. The chart above gives us a breakdown of the average sale price of the shoe since May 15,2022. The shoe started at in the low $300’s, then went down to $269, and has been trending up again in the last three days. I expect the resale value to sit within the $270 to $300 interval. Let’s see what the five number summary reveals
Minimum: 185
Quartile Q1: 269
Median: 278.5
Quartile Q3: 290.75
Maximum: 415
The lowest sale recorded was $185 ( on a size 7.5) while the highest sale was $415 (on a size 13) on May 19,2022. 9% of the shoes sold for prices from $185 to $240 ( mostly sizes 7.5). 40% sold for prices from $247 to $280 ( a couple of size 10’s, and mostly sizes 10.5 and 11.5). 25% sold for prices from $281 to $300 (mostly sizes 10, 11 and 12). 12% sold for prices from $301 to $415 ( a couple of sizes 8, several sizes 8.5, three size 9 and a size 13). There were several outliers
Set of outliers: {185, 216, 221, 222, 226, 229, 230, 232, 335, 349, 350, 368, 381, 385, 415}
We can assume that most pairs will sell for prices between $260 and $300, thus leading to the following margins -$3 to +$33. The chart below will show you a breakdown of the sizes with profitable margins.
Verdict
Sizes 8,8.5, 9,9.5, 12 and 13 are the only ones worth reselling. The other sizes except 7 and 7,5 lead to pretty modest margins. Those with smaller feet ( sizes 7, 7.5) will probably be able to get their pairs for retail or a little less. You can make your decision based on these records. I certainly wouldn’t recommend it, there are other investments I discussed this week i.e Jordan 4 Military Black, NB 9060
