February is right around the corner and it coincides with the celebration of “Black History Month” and the brewing of Tax season. The market will be more saturated than ever since every brand is aiming directly at the consumer’s tax return. February 1st will see the release of the Air Jordan 2 BHM and my job this evening is to come up with a believable estimate of the number of pairs made. I searched for the number of stockists appropriated an inventory and came up with the retailers in the list below beside Nike:
Footlocker, Footaction, Hibbett, Shoepalace, Citygear,Ruvilla/DTLR, KicksUSA. Surprisingly Finishline, Champs and Eastbay were not included. That is about 7 retailers listed and among those 7’s, four are minor retailers. I usually make my assumptions based on Footlocker’s launch locator but I wanted to do something different today. KicksUSA has made some significant changes to its release calendar and I’ll exploit that to make my projection. But first let’s consider the assumptions below
. The four minor retailers will receive about 1/6 of the inventory
.KicksUSA receives about 1/4 of the total inventory minor retailers are allocated
.Each KicksUSA store listed will receive about 36 pairs
.KicksUSA online will receive about 1/2 the amount the physical stores are appropriated
NOW LET’S RUN OUR NUMBERS
KicksUSA has created a system that allows you to see the name and number of stores that will be carrying specific sneakers on their release calendar. For the Air Jordan 2 BHM, a total of 9 stores have been recorded and based on my assumptions above, this will lead to:
Number of pairs per physical store= 36 x 9= 324 pairs and the online store allocation will be:
Online allocation = 324/2=162 pairs
Total from KicksUSA= 162 + 324= 486 let say 500 pairs and since this represent 1/24 of the total number of pairs made then our Total will be:
Grand Total= 500 x24= 12,000 pairs ( This number doesn’t seem believable but I’ll stick with it).
No pair was sold on eBay so there is no data for me to work with, I guess we’ll have to stick with StockX’s numbers.
There were a total of 7 separate listings of the BHM Jordan 2 on Kixify ( each with several sizes) and 11 sales were recorded as follows:$249, $248 , $265 x9 which leads to a market value of
$2882/11= $262 via Kixify
StockX’s numbers are in the screenshot below
I ‘m suspecting that the number of pairs made will probably exceed 50k given the market value above but it’s hard to decide. I’m definitely convinced that the retailers will not sit on the BHM Jordan 2.
