In recent years, Nike has been increasingly using the “edit” to amplify campaign, bringing back some of its classic colorways and silhouettes. This time around, it’s the black cement 3 that’s being resurrected in the Air Jordan 3 Desert Elephant. The shoe features a black leather upper with elephant print details on the toe and heel, along with a white midsole and grey outsole.
I was recently on the hunt for a reliable, objective review of the AJ3 Desert Elephant. My search led me to Weartesters, and I have to say that I’m impressed with his take on the shoe. He really seems to know his stuff when it comes to sneakers, and he is not afraid to give an honest opinion. I appreciate that he is not just blindly promoting the latest release, but rather giving an informative and unbiased review. See video below
Air Jordan 3 Desert Elephant Review By Weartesters
The Jordan 3 was first released in 1988, and it quickly became one of the most popular basketball shoes of all time. Thanks to its timeless design and comfortable fit, the shoe has been regularly rereleased over the past 30 years. The latest version of the shoe, the Desert Elephant, pays homage to the original Air Jordan 3 with its unique elephant print design. While some might argue that Nike should have simply released Black Cement 3, after watching the video, I believe that the Desert Elephant is a deserving successor to the throne. The shoe captures the nostalgia of the original while also offering a modern twist that sets it apart from other retro-inspired sneakers. In my opinion, Nike has once again hit it out of the park with the Desert Elephant.
The shoe was definitely built with premium leather materials in mind – you can just tell from looking at it. The black underlays especially give the shoe a firmer, thicker look and feel that makes it clear it’s going to take some time to be broken in. In other words, this ain’t no flimsy little sneaker; this is a shoe that’s meant to last. And that’s reassuring, given how often we see sneakers falling apart these days.
Nike has always been good at taking a classic design and giving it a modern twist. The desert elephant print on these Jordan 3s is a perfect example of that. The print itself is a nod to the original black cement 3s, but the desert colors give it a fresh look. And the overall design of the shoe is true to the 1988 original. That attention to detail is what makes these shoes so special. They’re not just another retro reinterpretation, but a truly faithful recreation of one of the most iconic basketball shoes ever made. Bravo, Nike.

Jordan 3 Desert Elephant: Resale Value
The chart above gives us a breakdown of the current earnings/losses per size sold. As you can see, 92% of the sales resulted in losses ( sizes 7-12.5) ,while only one single sale ( 8%) led to a break even point. The verdict is clear, do not resell the shoe or you’ll suffer some great losses. This ought to raise your eyebrows whether you’re a reseller or not. The average sale price of the shoe for sizes 7-9.5 is $181 ( that is 13% below the suggested retail price). How can this be possible when the shoe hasn’t even officially released yet. Something isn’t right and Nike surely knows what is going on, but the brand probably cant stop it, or shall I say they won’t stop it.
The average resale value for sizes 10-13 is $213 ( $1 above the MSRP) still resulting in a loss of $18. So I hope you’re a Saturday morning reseller, you know not to touch this shoe. But for folks with enough capital, this is the ideal shoe for the long term investment. I can see it peaking at $300 within the next 14-18 months. And the good news is, you can buy it for below retail. This is also great news for buyers, you’ll be able to buy the Desert Elephant Jordan 3 for retail or less.
